Many times in my life I wondered, whether we love to love or we love to hate? Let me explain. For example, you have a bunch of friends, have you ever wondered how only some of them become more close than others. Is it because you have common things that you love or you have common things that you hate? More often than that not, it is the later case. Commonness of hatred is stronger than commonness of love. A group of colleagues sitting in a cafeteria talking with each other find a bond between them more because they hate the boss than because they like each other.
Not convinced? Haven't we seen fans who are supposed to love their star or celebrity actually hate the remaining stars. Forget about following the ideals of their stars/celebrities, what they do all the time is to quarrel with fans of other stars/celebrities. Haven't we seen the fan-wars in different platforms forming groups and fighting with each other. If you have never witnessed such far-wars, check the comments section of articles and videos in sites like YouTube, Cricinfo etc.
Lets not think about the other stars/celebrities, even in the case of our own stars, if they behave a little different than what we expect we hate them. A classic example for this, when Sachin got tax exception on his imported car, the whole nation, including his hard-core fans said "He is such a rich man why does he gets the tax exemption?". Isn't this some kind of hatred?
To quote another example: Consider a situation where India performed competent enough but lost to Pakistan, what do the people do? Is it the love for India or cricket or do we hate Pakistan? In fact, we Indians, do we really love Cricket?
Most political parties purely live in the name of love for a region or caste or religion. But what they actually do is to hate the others. We have seen this hatred in other countries also like Australia and United States, where the outsiders are beaten in the name of love for the country/natives.
Religion. Historically, religion has always preached love but practiced hatred. You become religious only if you hate other religions. Lot of conversions happened by show-casing the hatred to a particular religion. The dose of this kind of hatred is much higher in India because of the variety ways we found to hate each other: language, region, caste and infinite ways. People of one caste or region come together to hate the others. Agitations like Telangana or so-called moral-police are based on pure hatred than pure love. I sometimes feel that these people eat, drink and live hatred but say otherwise.(To digress, Shiva Sena has not said a word against Poonam Pandey till the match is over. They raised their voice after the match is over, which looks like they are more disappointed NOT to see her nude).
Though in all the movies, stories and fairy-tales, we have seen 'Love' as the life of our lives, what we actual do is to Hate in the name of Love. While love is a complicated, idealistic, undefined, controversial, over-hyped emotion, hate is a fairly simple,under-rated bold emotion. While there might be people who have not shown or seen love in their life, there wont be anybody who haven't felt 'Hatred'.To put in a different perspective, hatred if unchecked or ignored plays a bigger role than love. For many people like T-agitators and other similar parties, hatred has become life. What about you? Did you check the level of hatred you feel in your life?

ReplyDeleteOf the many contradictions that exist in the world, the contrast between love and hate is perhaps the starkest..It is one that helps us value true love while understanding the ramifications of hatred.
