Will the corruption end with Jan Lokpal ?

The article here provides a different perspective on the on-going movement against corruption. To summarize, the author points out the following views:
1) The Jan Lokpal bill proposed is anti-democratic.
2) When you have the power to vote, why elect a corrupt politician?
3) Making laws is the right of governments, no matter how ineffective or corrupt these governments may be.
4) Nearly all corruption in India is related to government (I have never met an Indian who has not been forced to bribe an official at some time or other).

While the first three points are debatable, I agree with the last point. While corruption at a higher level, CWG/telecom makes me feel bad, what makes it painful is to pay bribes to get the things done in government offices. This has always bothered me. What is the root cause for this kind of corruption: Is it because of the corrupt politicians? I think no. (Correct me if I am wrong) My personal opinion in this matter is that, because of the socialistic attitude of our government formed after Independence, government tried to provide security to its officials/employees and this is where the corruption started. When these government employees knew that they don't have to work to get their salary or promotion, they stopped working and started taking bribes.

Now the question is: will this Jan Lokpall bill stop this kind of corruption? Earlier, we have seen some new channels doing hungama by exposing some corrupt officials to raise their TRP's but how much effect does it had on these people? Though I don't support politicians being corrupt, politicians have been corrupt in the most developed nations also. Can we really stop politicians not to be corrupt? While corruption in many other countries are at higher level, corruption in India is at all levels. Can we really become corruption free by making this Jan Lokpall bill?

Second: if the government makes laws against corruption for the government employees or if they make all the jobs temporary, will the people accept it? Is it possible to make such a law? Can a government sustain after making such a law?

Third: Take the current situation in Tamil Nadu. Both the parties DMK & AIADMK are competing with each other for offering bribes (TVs, Grinders, cellphones) why don't the people stand up and say we don't want to elect these people who are offering us bribes. We, the people are corrupt. We need bribes. Can a society with this kind of attitude be changed with a simple law?

  1. @My opinion:I agree with you and want to add some points to it(no personal likes/dislikes on any one):
Regarding corruption: No Lokpal bill will end it unless untill ppl start feeling themselves that they shd be honest in their earnings/transaction.
Its nt correct to always talk about Higher ppl about corruption(may be their range is high,so their corruption also but which is wrong also).I would like to bring one example which evryone knows here to remind...

marriage Bribe(is that nt corruption,i saw many ppl simply giving/taking Crores as bribes-- in which account it will go??? in that case every one want politicians, bureaucrats or wealthy ppl daughters, but all of them will click "like" button in FB in support of Anna HAzare???

    2. Everyone saying entire country with "Anna Hazare" or in support of "Anna Hazare"...if so why all these fasts and troubles???Let “Team Anna” form a political party,Win ,form a Govt in 2014 then no one will stop them from Passing the "Lokapal" or for that matter any?......

3.Even in team "Anna " also....Some sr most ppl,NGO,all these days calm, but why are they opening their mouths now,why not when they are in service??why ppl(not all,but many ) not talk when in service but only after that??also fromwhere do most of the Bada NGOs got their funds???

Nothing will end unless the change comes "in the Source".

  2. @Vijay: I agree with your points (1) and (3). As for (3), most of the ppl who are supporting Anna are actually corrupt. You can see many politicians who are corrupt, supporting him. This is a fancy business to be anti-corrupt.

For (2) it might not be practically possible.
